Just a short one today. Blogging childhood memories for the A to Z blog challenge. Can’t leave out my first best friend, Mugsy…P is for Pets!
What makes a good best friend? Well, when you’re four years-old it’s someone you can tell all your secrets to. And it helps if they’re furry and gentle. I have a vivid memory of hanging on Mugsy’s neck, whispering in his ear. I thought he was the most beautiful dog in the world. Some might have seen a mutt, but not me. Good ol’ Mugs. He was my first pet. A faithful friend.
Had several dogs since then. Every one of them special in their own way. Here’s a pic of my little guy now, Murphy. He’s a good secret keeper too. Great listener!
Benefits of Pet Ownership
When I was a kid, all I knew was that I loved my dog. He made me happy. Now, there is evidence that dogs/pets benefit our lives in some surprising ways. Did you know dog owners have fewer medical problems? Kids who grow up with dogs have fewer allergies, have less sick days?
Surprised by any of this? Or did you already know your sweet pup was good for you? Here are links to a couple articles that detail more benefits of dog ownership.
How about you? Have pets growing up? Got a favorite?
